Help Santa, Get a Free Bike!
Adopt-A-Bike Program
Did you want a bike for Christmas but you think it’s too late to inform Santa? Well, it’s not too late and the bikes are free!! The Town of Islip through the Adopt-A-Bike Program makes recycled bikes available to everyone free of charge.
The program was started in 2010 by Islip Councilman Edwards as a way for residents to donate unwanted bikes. The bikes are repaired, if necessary, by workers at the Town of Islip Recycle Facility and made available to the public free of charge.
The Town of Islip also received a donation of bicycle helmets from E-Green Management LLC, a local recycling company. These helmets will be provided for all bicycles adopted for children.
As of December 22, 2011, there were 75 bicycles available. Members of the public are invited to drop off unwanted bikes or pick up a “like-new” recycled bicycle. The program is operated year round but takes on special significance during the holiday season.
Bicycles can be donated and adopted the Town of Islip Recycling Facility, 1155 Lincoln Avenue in Holbrook NY 11741.
